Role description
Role: Charity Programme Manager
The Offer: This is a flexible freelance role, initially for 6 months starting November 2025 (with potential to be extended, dependent on funding). You will be expected to work approx. 20 hours per week at £25/hour.
Requirements: You must be self-employed and able to work remotely. You will be required to attend events, mainly in Cornwall (sometimes further). Own transport would be an advantage.
Location: Ideally you will be based in Cornwall to attend events, but we are willing to consider applicants outside of Cornwall if you are the right fit.
As Charity Programme Manager of Cornwall Climate Care, you'll play a key role in guiding the organisation forward with energy, heart and creativity. You’ll work with our Trustees to shape the charity’s future, making big-picture decisions that help us deepen our impact and build a sustainable financial future.
In this position, you’ll be at the centre of all our operations —overseeing fundraising, managing finances, guiding our team, building partnerships, seeking new opportunities and inspiring engagement across Cornwall and beyond. This role is all about firing up hope, breaking through the noise of climate denial, and keeping the message positive, honest and impossible to ignore.
You'll get to:
- Lead the development of our charity’s strategies—both short and long-term—so they truly reflect our mission and ambitions.
- Make important decisions that shape the charity’s direction and keep our work funded.
- Be the voice of Cornwall Climate Care, connecting with our supporters, partners, sector relevant networks, schools, government and the wider public.
- Bring fresh ideas to the table and help keep our work creative and impactful.
- Champion our positive, balanced, trustworthy and non-polarising approach.
- Ensure we’re always working to the highest ethical standards and following legal guidelines.
- Plan and host events that inspire! You’ll work closely with the Outreach Manager to boost awareness and widen our reach.
- Ensure that any future content that the charity makes is crafted in the most compelling way possible, sparking imagination, hope and action. Ensure every story resonates with audiences and stays relevant and up to date.
- Develop impactful and enduring partnerships that support the charity’s goals.
What you’ll bring:
- Inspiring leadership skills and a passion for motivating others.
- Good people management skills.
- Attention to detail, paired with a big-picture outlook.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to represent the charity in a range of settings.
- Experience working in the charity or climate communication sectors. Experience in environmental documentaries would be a bonus.
- The ability to stay calm and make decisions under pressure.
- Strong business sense, financial acumen and a flair for creative thinking. Experience in raising funds for charitable organisations would be beneficial.
- A passion for identifying opportunities to collaborate with partners and, ideally, a long contacts list.
- Regular engagement with climate news and the ability to turn global stories into local action.
We’re looking for someone who’s enthusiastic, dedicated and ready to help write the next chapter in our story. If you’re excited by what we do and have a head full of fresh ideas, we’d love to hear from you.
